With a revolution in Indian traditional medicines and products, there has been a huge increase in the number of herbal products exporters, herbal products manufacturers, herb exporters, natural herbal products exporters etc. in India.

The use of medicinal plants and natural herbs to prevent and cure diseases didn't begin yesterday. Herbal remedies and herbal products have been in use over 4,000 years for treating minor ailments and diseases. In ancient Mesopotamia, the Sumerian civilization was known to have an extensive listing of natural remedies, numbering near 500, that were taken from plants, trees, roots, seeds, and minerals. Cuneiform clay tablets in use at the time and discovered in the 1850s, demonstrate how these remedies were used. India used some herb based treatments between 1500BC-1000BC. In fact an ancient Hindu drug derived from the root of the Indian plant Rauwolfia serpentina was the source of the first modern tranquilizer. Chinese traditional medicine is probably the best-known alternative to Western medicine. Hundreds of ancient herbal remedies from China are still in use today in much of Asia.

There is a growing movement towards the consumption of dietary supplements, herbal products and more natural therapies out of a desire by people to take more control over their health. Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, or 80 percent of the world's population, use herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. Part of the reason is rising medical costs, which encourages both prevention and self-care. Also herbal and natural remedies are safe. They offer no side effects as compared to prolonged use of allopathic medications.

Herbs are available in a variety of forms, including fresh, dried, in tablets or capsules, or bottled in liquid form. You can buy them individually or in mixtures formulated for specific conditions. Whatever type of herbal product you choose, the quality of a herbal preparation-be it in capsule, tablet, tea, tincture, bath, compress, poultice, or ointment form-is only as good as the quality of the raw herb from which it was made. Some common medicinal herbs include alfalfa, calendula, aloe vera, ginseng, chamomile, fennel, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, rosemary, thyme, hawthorn, kava kava and echinacea, to name a few.
